Georgia Has Pickup Truck Seat Belt Law!!

Georgia was the only state in the nation with a primary law that excluded pickup trucks. If you were under 18 you were required to buckle up, but adults did not. Children learn by example! This needed to change and it did this year! June 3rd, 2010 the law went into effect.

Georgia Young Adult Driver Task Team Opinion on Seat Belt Law for Pickup Trucks

Reid's mothers reason for this blog

We lost our son Reid, on June 3rd 2006, due to a motor vehicle accident.
He was the driver and only 17 yrs old. He grew up in a rural area and people rarely buckled up in their pickup trucks. It is not against the law for an adult in a pickup truck to not wear a seat belt. Most of the adult males in our type of community do not buckle up. Especially males that drive pickup trucks do not buckle up.

Children learn by example and while the mother may teach her children to always wear a seat belt as she did when they rode with her in a passenger car, if the male role model's the children are around do not then that is what they tend to do as well.

Reid was a smart, bright, fun loving teenager, heading to college as well as an entrepreneur.

The fact is, Reid had everything going for him until his life was tragically cut short the night of June 3, 2006.
Speeding around a dangerous curve in the dark, while texting, having consumed alcohol earlier in the day, and not wearing a seat belt proved to be a deadly combination. Had he not been doing all those things, he could still be alive today. It may have been different if he had on a seat belt.

Unfortunately, as heart breaking as it is, there is nothing that can be done to bring Reid back but his family is trying to create awareness about all these issues and the danger they potentially can cause so that it doesn't happen to YOU!
